DEATH OF MR. T>. 11. RAIT. Quito a gloom waw cast over Palnierston yesterday when it became known that .Mr ID H. Rait, the well-known veterinary surgeon, had met w it'll an accident, death being instantaneous. The unfortunate accidient occurred at 10.50 a.lll. in a paddock at the rear ot deceased's residence, at the corner ot Grey and Victoria Streets. Mr A. 11. Bcrgor.son took a hor.-e that was suffering from eolic to Mr Rait for veterinary treatment, ."fir Rait gave the horse treatment and then proceeded to take its temperature, when the horse suddenly jumped forward: and lashed out with both hind less, knocking Mr Rait backwards. Mr Bcrgcirson, who was holding the horse, ran and picked him up, but he was quite unconscious emitting several moans before he expired. I>r. Putnam was called; and found that deceased's chest was ftove in and all the bones broken. (Deceased leaves a widow and six children, who have the deep sympathy of a large number of friends. The. late Mr Rait studiedi his profession at the University College, London. where- he passed with honours.
