The fortniglitly meeting of the Levin Borough Council was heldi on Monday evening. Present—The Mayor, Mr C. Blenkihorn (Lii -the chair), and Grs. Matiieson, MeKenzie, Bull, Parker, 'Lanciaslter, Aitken, Broome, and J>r Bryson. The Town Clerk, Mr B. It. Gardener, and the Borough Overseer, Mr Channings, were also present.
The Officer in Chairgc of War Expenses wrote with regard to financial insistence to soldiers for payment of rates that oertain suggestions had been made to the Minister with a view to obviating the difficulty that had arisen, but lihese had not boon approved yet. Payment* could only be made strictly dii accordance with the law as it stands, and he saw no reason why warrants received by the Town Clerk could not be cashed and th? amounts iheld on accounts —ilccoivo'l.
The Deputy Commissioner of Stamps asked that the Council ,«upo.y a list of theatres and halls in the Borough and tho capacity of each for the (purposes of the Amusements Tax.—List The Under-Secretary for Lands wrote enquiring whether ilie Borough Council would be willing 10 o a further term of office is 'lie heard controlling the Waiopeiiu .Scenic Reserve, as the period for which tho Council was appointed had expired —Hie Town Clerk reported that, after consulting the Mayor, he had replied accepting reappointment for Ahe Board.
