More Cabinet Changes.

4 EARLY RETIREMENT OF HON. A. L. HERDMAN. MR D. H. GUTHRIE LIKELY TO JOIN MINISTRY. (""Wanganui Chronicle.") The next change that may be expected in the Cabinet is the resignation of the Hon. A. L. Hcrdman, who is to take the seat on the Supreme Court Bench to be vacated shortly by the retirement of Sir John Denniston. It is probable that Mr Herdman will take his seat on tho Bench as soon as possible after the legal vacation at Christmas time, -which ends at the end of January. There is no doubt as to who Mr Herdman's successor in the Cabinet will be. The only candidate in the running is Mr D. H. Guthrie. At present Mr Herdman is Attorney-General, Minister in Charge of the Crown Law Office, Minister in Charge of Police, and Minister in Charge of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department. The Attorney-Generalship will go to Sir Francis Bell almost as a matter of course, and he will also take over control of the Crown Law Office. Mr Hanan will take over control of the Police. Mr Guthrie will take the discharged soldiers under his wing. The Department is not yet a large one, but it will increase in importance enormously after tho war. He may also be given some of Mr Masscy's many portfolios.
