In 188S Carbine, the best horse ever New Zealand produced, •was beaten by Ensign in the Victorian classic event, and seven years later Osculator, also running in New Zealand interests, finished second to Wallace. Last year Kilboy, starting a hot favourite. finished out of a place. Biplane may be destined to break the spell in the classic race on behalf of the Dominion.
