SPORTING NOTES.

Chortle must be a good one. His win at Avondale was full of merit. Marconi scored a long overdue win when ho won the Hurdles at Avondale on Saturday, beating old Martou fairly comfortably. Kael Locin, who finished third in the Caulficld Cup, was ridden by B. Deeley. The Delawaro horse was in front at the distance, but Bronzetti got up on the inside and won by a neck, while Cherome just cut Itacl Locin out of second money. Later in the day Deelep rode Dc Gama, who rcon the Moora Welter. Tattle has produced a full brother to Teka, Mungista a full sister to Indigo, and Rouble a full sister to Sleight of Hand, at Mr G. Hunter's Porangahau station. Other mares to foal at the same stud are Eland, Miss St. Cecilia, Miss Renown, and Electric Spark, who have all foaled to Mystification. This coterie of marcs, together with Mysterium, Mystic, Bliss, Merry Reel, and Sicily, all visit the imported horse Crown Imperial 11. this season. With such a collection of marcs the son of Martagon —Macaroon has been given every chance to prove himself a stud success. Of the 54 lots to be offered at the sale of yearlings at Cliristehurch this week no fewer than 41 are by imported sires, six of the yearlings have been imported, while the remaining seven arc by Martian, who, though foaled in the Dominion, was sired north of the line. Ladogeur's party had enlargement of the pockets after the Sir Laddo gelding's win at Poverty Bay last week. A small amount went in the same direction when Marimba won on the first day. Marimba has not yet forgotten how to gallop five furlongs, and her backers did well to get such a nice dividend about her in the Junction Handicap at Poverty Bay. A. Reed and 11. Gray each rode four winners at the Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting. Biplane is still on top. His win in the V.R.C. Derby on Saturday stamps him as a champion. The "bookies' "prayer: "God Save the Ring.'' All Red was the only thoroughbred sire on parade at the Manwatu Show. He looked a picture, and gained many friends.
