The Boston Harbour Board Amendment Acit has practically passed into Law, and thus after a long struggle this coast WJill soon be in a position to talso full advantage of the waiter carriage that means so much to the trade and commerce of the area that will be served. The new legislation sets up a harbour district and gives power to the Board to acquire lands iand assets and to construct works. The Act provides that the 'Board may from time to time borrow any sum l not exceeding £*16,000 for the "construction and purchase of a dredge and the construction and performance of th© worika tie (Board considers necessary for <fche requirements of tire harbour and the navigable waters of the Manawatu river from tho WKrotino bridge >to the. seaward limits of the harbour." The Board cannoit borrow any money under tho authority of the Act other than a repayment of •a loan, except with the coaiisenit of the ratepayers of the district. The maximum rate that the Board is entitled'to levy upon the several areas comprising the dsstriob for the purpose of providing for the prepayment of the £16,000 for ihe purfcha.se of the wharf and tho repayment of any subsequent loan authorised shall be the fractional part of £1 mentioned in each oif the following cases : Manawatu Ccumty, one-eighth; Kairanga County, one-twenty-fourth ; Palmerston North Borough, one-tenth ; feildimg Borough, one-twenti.eth ; Levin Borough, one-twelith ; Fox ton Borough, seVen-eiglitlus. It is expected however, that the revenue l'roin the port will' be sufficient fco meet all chair-

Since the Commission's finding in regard to the price tho .Board is to pay the Railway Department for the wharf, the revenue from , the wharf has been set aside by tht Railway authorities, and will be transferred to 'ilie Board.
