THE LATEST QUOTATIONS
Wellington, Oct. 26. The New Zealand Farmers' Cooperative Distributing Company,
Ltd., report: —The potato market
is a little bare, with plenty of offerings from southern ports, but prices are steady at recent rates. A parcel of fowl wheat is expected to arrive shortly from Australia during the next few days, which will somewhat relieve the demand, but prices are not expected to be affected by the extra supply. Maize is very firm and local supplies are short; supplementary shipments are expected, but these cannot affect prices, as values are very high in Sydney. The demand for ryegrass and clover has not yet reached its height, and with stocks shoit the high prices ruling are not expected to decline. Cocksfoot is now realising a higher figure than has been the case for some years, and supplies are low. The supply of bran and pollard is very much short of the demand. Pork is still very scarce, and stocks in the country must be scaree, otherwise the very high rates ruling Iwould have a larger supply coming forward. The supply of poultry has been a little better, but still not equal to requirements.
Vegetables.— Cabbage is in fair supply, but the demand is keen and high prices are realised. Cauliflowers are fetching high figures. Carrots have taken a further advance. A few Australian and American onions are now offering, but the prices asked are prohibitive. Good hearted lettuce are realising a satisfactory figure, but inferior lines are hard to dispose of. Beet root is realising record price. This could also be said of parsnips and marrows, the latter being seldom seen on the markets. Good table swedes have now reached their highest values for the season. Celery is coming in a little more freely, but prices are very high. Green peas are coming forward in larger quantities, with a consequent decline in prices. Rhubarb —Although a fair quantity is coming forward, is maintaining satisfactory rates. New potatoes are offering a little more freely, but the quality is very inferior.
Fruit. —A few lines of American apples are now to be seen, the prices of which is good, and realised high prices. N.Z. fruit, both apple and dessert, are not equal to the demand, and values realised is satisfactory fto growers. Pears are very scarce, with an upward tendency in price.

DAIRY FARMS. It is not often that estates are offered to the public by public auction. When they are they always draw considerable attention. On Friday, 9th November, at 3 p.m., at Gillander's Hall, Shannon, the •whole of the estate of A. M. Richardson, deceased, will be submitted. Any person desirous of purchasing a really first-class dairy farm would do well to inspect and attend this sale. Two dairy farms, about 98 acres in each, situated close to Shannon, on the Kara road, should meet with a ready sale. Being handy to the station and factory, big returns can be obtained by supplying the factory or sending the milk to Wellington. There are also 20 acres, with a good residence, in the township of Shannon, and only about 20 chains from the railway station. This is a choice little property, and no doubt will commend itself to retired or semi-retired farmers or business men. This would make a first-class little stud farm, and stud breeding in a small way could be indulged in as a profitable pastime. Dairying could also be carried on, supplying milk to Shannon, or sending it to Wellington. The auctioneers will also be submitting a very choice town section, close to the railway station.
