A shocking accident occurred at Tokomaru yesterday afternoon when the New Plymouth-Wellington express passed through. A lad of 11 years of age named Reginald Edward Thomas Pekin, son of Mr and Mrs E. Pekin, residing at Tokomaru, was on the station platform and crossed from there over to the goods shed across tho rails. On coming back he evidently did not hear tho approach of the train, and was struck by the engine. Dr. Putnam was telephoned for, and was quickly in attendance, but the lad had evidently been struck on the head and death must have been instantane- | ous. Much sympathy is felt for the lad's parents.
