CONCLUSION OF SATURDAY 'S MEETING.
Cr Stephenson introduced Mr Kroon, representing tlio Arapcti Estate, who desired that the existing road to the property be repaired and a piece of road of ten chains .1)0 formed and metalled in order to give access to the property. Cr Stephenson said he and Cr Venn felt they could hardly recommend largo expenditure, but wished the Council to consider the matter.
Mr Kroon said he was prepared to enter into a contract to construct the ten chains, including a small bridge, for £100, which was half the engineer's estimate, work to be carried out to the engineer's approval. Crs Ryder and Stephenson said' tlio access to the property was very rough at present—some of the roughest country they had seen. Cr Stephenson added that some of the county's largest ratepayers were interested. Cr Stephenson moved and Cr Venn seconded: That this Council agree to pay the Arapcti Company the sum of £100 on condition that they carry out and complete all the work asked for by their representative, Mr Kroon; that is to say, the bridging of the stream, making the approaches thereto for a distance of three eliains, more or less, on each side of the bridge; the •whole work to be done to the entire satisfaction of the County Engineer and the Councillors for the riding in accordance with specifications to be proposed, the contract to be signed by the representative of the company. Carried. MACHINERY ACCOUNT. The chairman moved: "That all road machinery acquired by this Council be paid for by the various ridings contributing an amount in proportion to the capital value of each riding; cost of working, renewals, and ordinary maintenance to be paid for by the individual siding in proportion to the length of time worked by the said machinery in each such riding; an account, to be called the Machinery Account, to be established in the books of the Council, adjustments to be made at the end of the financial year, or half year." Cr Kebbell secorded the motion, remarking that it carried out the spirit in which the County was formed and was designed to protect the weaker ridings. —The motion was carried. Cr Murray moved and Cr Broadbelt seconded: "That, the half interest or the Wirokino Riding in the crusher valued at £100 be taken over by tlio County at a pro rata valuation. — Carried. RESOLUTIONS. On Crs Catley and Monk's motion, the ranger was instructed not to impound any stock on the roads between S a.m. and <> p.m. until further notice. The selection of a driver fir the road roller was left to a sub-committee, there being twelve applicants.
