These amounts were gratefully received. Mr Howard Andrew said Manakau had £350 in hand and £300 of this would shortly be forwarded.
Mr Goldsmith raised the question of investing the funds now lying idle- There was £600 or •£<oo which could be disposed of in such a way as to earn interest.
After brief discussion as to the best course to take, it was moved by Mr St. George, seconded by Mr S. A. Broadbelt, and carried that £800 be placed on fixed deposit at the Bank of New Zealand for two years. It was pointed out that the Association had -£500 in War Bonds, and £1000 in the Post Office upon which it could draw if money was needed.
INCREASING THE TOTAL.
Mr A. McLeavey asked whether it would be possible to arrange any function to increase the funds.
Mr J. McLeavey said the annual meeting of the A. and P. Association would be held on Saturday, and, while he could not speak for the Society, he thought something might be done in the direction of giving the proceeds to the County Fund.
The suggestion was made that the ladies be asked to take over the luncheon and tea arrangements at the show and Mr J. McLeavey said the total could be largely increased by an auction sale of stock donated by the farmers.
It was agreed that a big patriotic effort at showtime would be of great assistance to the County Fund.
Mr Andrew asked whether it would not be desirable to organise a function such as a gymkhana to take place before Christmas.
Mr Keedwell explained that a small committee was considering the organisation of a carnival iu Levin for the County Fund. Two years ago £350 was raised in this manner and many of the same workers were prepared to come into this movement, which would be under way before next meet-
ing. Mr Keedwell expressed the opinion that if the ladies undertook the show catering they should not be expected to get the material and stock.
