A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING ON

SATURDAY

The Aunnal Meeting of the Levin A. and P. Show will be heJd in the Foresters' Hall at 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. The Committee, in their report, say :

Your Committee have pleasure in presenting to you the eleventh Annual Report and Balancesheet, and in doing so wish to extend to one and all their thanks and appreciation for the support and valuable assistance rendered by them during the past year.

You are all aware of the fact that the 1917 show was for the second year a patriotic one —for the benefit of the Horowhenua CountyPatrioticAssociation fund, to which it was decided the net profits should be given.

j Your Committee regret that the result in this direction is not as satisfactory as they would like it to be, as the amount available is only some £95 17s, compared ■ with £125 handed over from the show of 1916; but when you compare some of the items in the balance-sheet before you with those of the previous one, you will plainly see, we think, tii:n, although the amount available for patriotie purposes is much smaller, the expenses geneniily have been very much heavier. For instance, timber account, £29. as against £3 5s ; rent, to Park Company, £50, as against nil; increase in prize money, £19, making a total in these three items alone of some £95. In addition to this extra expense, we lost the benefit of the bukock and guessing competition, which returned £36, and which went to Nuise Lewis' Maori Ambulance Fund, which, of course, was for a patriotic purpose also, although your Association does not receive any direct benefit from a financial point of view. In addition to these items, there is a decrease in the amount of general donations of some £60.

Special thanks are due to Mr N. Kirkcaldie for his generous donation of £100 to the fund, and to the Park Company for refund of £25 rent as a donation also. As you will see from the balance sheet before you, that had it not been for these gifts the amount available for patriotic purposes would have been very small indeed.

It is hoped that your association will endeavour to still carry on the show, notwithstanding the many drawbacks we are facing on account of the great national war we are struggling to help win. And your committee feel sure that when the day of victory comes, and we return to times of peace and normal conditions once again, the show will still continue to forge ahead and a credit to all connected with it.
