OIUXLNAiIIt FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Levin Borough Council met laafc night, Mr. C. Blenkhorn, mayor,' in the chair. There aleo were present Councillors W. Ryder, W. Bull, F. E. Parker, iK. Aitken, R. Biryson, E. S. Lancaster, D.W. Mlatheson. THE GASWORKS. The gasworks manager (Mr. A. ißurrell submitted .the following report on. last month's working olf t|be corporation gasworks:— "IDturinig the month, matters connected to the department show a very @s €(tieteeete(i>e(t>ote)beitetettoo d w c d satisfactory (position. The output otf gas for the period constitutes a record for .Levin, A fair lamofimt of gasfitting has been done, including the installation of a bath heater, gas fire and cooker. We have also another gas engiiue added' to the list; namely, the picture rtlheatre. The centre street-pedestal at Wetreraa as.s been removed aind itihe iside lanterns will he erected imanediaftely. .We Ihjave completed the, eircetion of tjhe square lanterns in place of the smaller ones on the outskirts. I now have three new buildjingjs awaiting a gas supply and /the work will be pushed' along as eoota .ajp possible. The earboni)siinjg plaint ia keeping in results. Coke is in good demand and meets with ready sale as goon as manufactured." The taible attached to ihe report showed that a total of 650,500 fegjt of gas wasl manufactured during the month. The out— put under all heads was 645,500 feet. The report was favorably commented upon, and adopted. BOROUGH FOREMAN'S REPORT. Mr. H. Oi'anningfS, borough foreman, reported as follows: "There has been a fair amount of general maintenance (and trimming of hedges at Wereroa road and tibe cemetery) done during the month. I have finished t'he fencing of the garden plot and have the potatoes in. I hope to get the hedges planted tiki's weak, after which I will get the treies planted in Queen streeft. With tjie treejs J took out of the i shrubbery at Wereroa I filled in the gaps l in Cambridge streeit and -tiie southern end of Oxford street helow the station. Elveryithing in connect tion with i/he waterworks is satisfactory at present. The ooncrete poetp for the gairden fence, both in regard to : price and appearance, should, I <think, give satisfaction ;and with councillors' approval I will make some more, as it will not be long before we will lh|ave to put in more at • the shrubbery near the railway station. ■ The report was adopted, HGROfWEQENUA LAKH. On the motioh of Councillor Aitken seconded by Councillor Matheson, it was nesolved to make a grant of £50 towards the cost of improving the reserve around Lake iHorowhenua. The money is to he speint cm effe«ting permanent improvements.
