The French infantry rushed through to the enemy's supporting position, where they were sflieiltcring from tho .artillery fire. The Germans, at bay. fought stubbornly. Those refusing: to surrender were killed;; the rest surrendered. die French at the end of the battle had gained an advance of a kilometre on a 'two and a-lialf kilometre front.
