♦ — NEWS FOR LOCAL FAEMERS. AXIL! SOME HELPFUL ADVICE. A meeting of the executive -of the ILovin Branch of .tha iN'ew Zealand Farmers' Union was lielcl on Saturday last. There were present Messrs. S. A.Broadbelt (chaiir, Jolin Kobbell, P. Stewart, AV. Stewart, W. H. Beclior, A. J. Giniblctt, and iH. J. (Richards (secretary). Mr. Richards reported concerning the canvass for shares in the Farmers' Distributing Co.. Ltd., stating that a very cnc-miraging result had been achieved so .far; also he mentioned that tho company now was established in its new branch at Ferilding. A circular letter from Mr T. Moss, « member of the Proficiency Hoard for Wellington Province was road. It was specially directed to tlio members of the Levin and District Trustee Board, and it dealt with the ndvisablcness of using every endeavor to ascertain what quantity of labor was likely to be required durfyij; next season's shearing and harvesting operations. Mr Moss also stressed the advisablencss of using every: endeavor to utilise town boys' labor during the school holidays. After the branch had discussed the letter, it was proposed by Mr Broadibelt and .seconded by Mr Beelvor, "That this branch offer every assistance possible in obtaining all information in reference to labor that will be required in this district ; and also calls the attention of farmers to the possible glut for butter and lamb throuftfi the shortage of shipping, for which reason 'the branch asks farmers wherever possible to make provision to hold extra or surplus stock through the following winter." In passing tlio foregoing resolution, the branch desired to induce formers to stf lay their plans that if it he found impossible to ship lambs next season tho farmers will bo in a position to carry the lambs over 'to tho hogget stage. The Chairman reported on the work done -fit the provincial conference lately held at Mart on. ■Mr. ißichards reported 011 a meeting of Chairmen of Branches held at J*;! 1 mors toil 'Xort!h laist Friday, at which it was decided that a circular ho sent out to brandies, dealing with administration work of tho branches. 'Mr. P. Ong was elected a member of the Levin Branch, on tlio proposition of Messrs Stewart and Becher. A discussion arose on the present system of military training of cadets, but the 'question was held over until a general imeeting of the branch to bo called for next month. —
