[ A visitor to tlhe district who has not been here for some years expresses surprise at the many signs of evident prosperity which meet the eye in riding from Otaki to Leivin. Everywhere along the rood the daiiryifarmers seem to 'be getting motor-cars, re-building or enlarging their houses, layinfg out ornamental grounds with fences and gates to match, forming tennis lawns and croquet grounds, and in fact proclaiming in every possible way how their money is buring holes in their pockets. . The prosperity, of Levin is evidenced by the fact that the local racing club has approached the Otaki Maori Club to crabe a share of the latter's loaves and fishes. A local insurance agent tells how he is doing the business of a lifetime with the farmers who are keen to invest their spar capital in endowment policies as these offer a better investment than the banks;
