A petition signed by 3939 electors, praying for the closing of hotel bars at six o'clock, as a war measure, was presented yesterday to i-Mr J. A. Young, member for Waikato, &t a largely attended meeting, whereat the mayor presided. Including the Cambridge petition a total of 4364 names l in the Waikato electorate favor the proposal. Mr Young said he was heartily in accord with the proposal, 'and stood full prepared to support the petitin when the opportunity offered. THE (NINTH BALLOT. , Wellington, This Diay The ninth military eervice ballot is proceeding to-day -to complete tho 33rd Reinforcements, the shortage being 1802. This is the second largest ballot on record, the propportion being drawn is 4J to 1. Every district is represented in. the ballot and the number of names to be drawn is 8117.
