Mrs Barratt, of Levin, lias received a cable from the Defence Minister, informing her that her son, Private Walter Barratt, who lias been in France for nearly fourteen months, is now in hospital there, sufferisg from a rib trouble. A paragraph in last night's report of the manager of OLevis gasworks submitted to Levin Borough Council) roads: — . . . When I have iiiiislred iitting-iip work now in hand I will proceed with the erection of our nev.' street lam.js. Eight of these now lamps have arrived, ready, for installation." The gas manager's report submitted to Levin Borough Council last night showed that the output of gas for May was a record one in the history of the gasworks. A petition from residents in Queens-wood-rcad, Levin, asking for an extra lamp in tliat road, was received at last night's meeting of Levin Borough Council. The petition was referred to the council's lighting committee, which will report to next meeting of the council, The remuneration of 7J per cent to the collector of sanitary fees due to Levin Borough Council is to be raised to 10 per cent.- The council resolved to this effect at last night's meeting. Regarding the application for a. readjustment of charges for high-pres-sure water supplied to the Boys". Training Farm, Weraroa, Levin Borough Council's waterworks committee recommended as follows: That water be supplied to the farm baths by a seperae connection through a .separate meter at 4d per thousand gallons. As an alternative, the committee recommended that so long as the farm is conducted for "service boys" only, whenever the charge l'or water supply under the present system exceeds £75 per annum, the excess of such charge shall be the subject of special consideration by the council witlia view to reducing the same, it being taken that such excess has been used for the purposes of the swimming baths. The council adopted the report.
