Levin Soldiers Fareweĺled

There were abount eighty couples present at the Town Hall, Levin, on Tuesday night, the occasion being a "send-off" dance to Messrs T. Hannan, J. Winchester and O. Rogers, three recruits for the / colours. Visitors were present from Otaki, Foxton and Shannon, and the M's. C. (Messrs M. Winiata and W. Williams) looked to their welfare in the best possible manner. 'Great credit is due to the management, especially Mr W. Broughton, for its work upon the floor, and also to the ladies who prepared the supper. The music was supplied by Mrs Bould piano, Miss Williamson violin, and Mr Lester while extras were played by Misses White, Pink; and (Mr D. Morgan. A song by Mr J. Hakaraia. of Otaki, was greatly enjoyed and the singer- received : an encore. 'Before supper, Mr J. Procter, on behalf of members of J.evin-Wanderers Football Club, and friends, presented Mr T. .Hannan with a wristlet watch. Mr Procter N stated that he had (known

Mr Hannan for' a t-'mo and always found him a trn? "sport"—not only in football matters, but also in other pastimes. On behalf of the club, and also on behalf of those p-es-ent, Mr Procter wished the departing guest every success in his new duties as a soldier, and hoped that'-he would return from the front safe and sound and play for the Levin-Wandeiers again. Mr Broughton said lie also had a duty to perform—a pleasant one in one way, but distasteful in another— as they were bidding adieu to two young men who wejre going from '(civilian life to take up their duties as soldiers. The speaker mentioned that he had known these young men for a short time only, but he was sure that the.y would do honor to their country. Wishing them "God speed' and Safe return," Mr Broughton handed Messrs Winchester and Jfogers respctatij-.-ely, handsome pipes in . cases. 'Mr Nepia Winiata in a few well-chosen words, responded on behalf of the recipients. After cheers had been given for the departing soldiers, dancing was resumed and kept going until an early hour. j
