NEW SOLDIERS' CLUB. Wellington last night. Tlie Minister of Defence to-d!aiy opened a new soldiers' club at ham, the fundis for which 'have been provided by the Government, the YiM.C.A. .and the public all over the Dominion. ..Sir James Allen, in a speech, said the club originated by the Y.M.C.A. offering £1000 to establish it. The question of furnishing and equipping remained and the mayor came to the fescue. The control "and manage-" ment would be in the handls of the Gamp Commandant assisted by a military committee, selected iby the Commandant. ' In view of what the Y.M.C.A had done and as they now offered to bear the whole of tlie running expenses he agreed that they should recommend to the Commandant a secretary who wonlcl assist him in the management of the club. The club would be non-denominational and no religious services would be held in it.

A deputation from the Soldiers' Club iFurnishing (Trentham) Committee waited upon Sir James Allen this afternoon. The spokesman eaid they had learnt with surprise and disappointment that tlie club was to be handed over to the Y.M.C.A. Sir James Allen's reply was similar to his speech at the opening ceremony.
