The 31 oa Dairy Ooirfpany has been considering the proposals to manufacture casein. It is stated that a guarantee of 2d pr lb butter fat would be guaranteed above cheese. The proposal was going very well iint/il a supplier characterised it as a Hunnish proposal when the nation was sorely- in need of focdstuifs t.i turn around and make billiard balls. Mr Marco Posella, who went to Dunedin last week (011 behalf of the Horowhenua Fruitgrowers' Association) to- attend' the National Apple Show, had the misfortune to be taken seriousty ill. He is now in a private hospital at Dunedin.

Three hundred thousand workers, including several thousand women, are assisting the Italian military engineer; in tiho war zone. Several months ago Mr P. C. .Webb, M.P. for Grey, was challenged bv a section of his constituents to resian a net" contest the seat upon his attitude in regard to current questions. The challenge has been repeated since the annouueemet of the result of the municipal elections. Mr Webb now says lis will accept it, and re-contest the Grey constituency if he receives a
requisition from a thousand electors of tlio district to that effect.

Tlie worst salt subsidence of the last 20 years occurred 011 London-road, Norwich, immediately after an omnibus, the driver of which felt the back wheel sink, had safely crossed the thoroughfare. The cracks extend a hurdrcd yards. A crater 60ft long and 1 70ft wide lias swallowed up the road surface, and some abutments of the bridge crossing the River Diane have sunk in the cavity. An o'd curiosity shop is supported at an angle of of oOdeg. by an adjoining painter's .hop. The road is compl:t°ly b'ocked.
