Levin Presbyterian Pair

A SUCCESSFUL OPENING.

' A fair and' sale of work in aidl of the funds of Levin Presbyterian Church was opened in the Century Hall yesterday afternoon and continued in the evening. The fair will be concluded to-night when an auction of unsold of unsold produce, etc., will be held. , The official opening was conducted by the Rev. J. J. "White (for , many years pastor of the church) in the absence of the present minister, the Rev. M. B&wden-Harris, who is absent on holiday. There was a good attendance of the public, and liberal patronage was accorded to the stallholders. The list of stalls and their attendants is as follows:— 1 Ladiies' workstall.—Mrs McTaggart and Mrs Bagrie. Girls' workstall.—Miss Williamson. Surprise packets. Mrs Arundal Simpson. Sweet stall.—Mrs Porteous, Miss Middlemiss, Miss Smellie. Enoduce stall.— Messrs Bert. Watson, A. Mottersliead, D. Laing. Tea-rooms.—Mesdames Smellie, Simpson (senior), Middlemiss, and the Misses Stevenson, Walker ; Jenson and Murray; Mr P. Oag. Special work to ensure the success of the fair was done by the following canvassing committee :—Mesdames Alf Home and Devine, Messrs J. H. Murray, D. Laing, J. Rutherford. Miss B. Stewart (Tvaiwu-road) secretary to the ladies' guild, lent valuable assistance in arranging' matters connected with the fair and in the work of the guild. • Mrs M. B. Harris, Messrs W. Tait, D. P. Porteous, William Stewart, J. W. Middlemiss also gave valuablo assistance. Furnishings for the tearooms were given by Misses MoKegg and Mr A. L. Williams. A program of instrumental music helped to enliven the proceedings last night and the same attraction will be provided to-night. Mrs. Nicholson did good work in the various guessing competitions. A special feature of the festival was the sweet stall—Presbyterian throughout— designed by Mrs Porteous, built jby members of the committee, and decorated by Mrs Porteous and her allies. The sight is unique, and it was admired by many visitors to the fair.
