Men Drawn in the Ballot
FIRST DIVISION NOW 55,000.
The numbers of men drawn for military service in the various iballots to date have been as follow:— First ballot. Nov. 1916 4000 Second ballot. T>ec.. 1916 3000 Third ballot, Jan. 1917 .3600 Fourth ballot (double) Feb. '17 ... 6867 Fifth ballot, • March. 1917 4503 Total 21,970 The five ballots have been calculated to fill some 7300 vacancies in the 23rd to 29 l th Reinforcements. The First .Division, wh'ich originally totalled 84.986 men, lias now been considerably drawn upon by voluntary enlistment. At the conclusion of the fourth Iballot on February 7th, the total number remaining in the reserve was 59,952. This number has now been further reduced by the 1503 men called up in tho fifth ballot and the voluntary enlistment of the First Division men since February. The total number now remaining in the First Division is thus below 55,000.
