Bowling by Gas Light
Ler.l Bo'ling Club's and Levin Ladies Croquet Club's gaslight ibowlii'ijj tourney and sale of gifts in aid of local patriotic 'funds, was concluded' on Thursday evening. The proceedings again proved highly pleasing, and puulic patronage was satisfactory. The various fit alls, .beautifully decorated and well stocked, were attended to by energetic bevies of ladies, and the sales they helped very materially to swell the cas>h takings, and further substantial assistance was derived from gifts of goods, live sheep, poultry and pigs .;ent in by local citizens and firms. The weather was perfect on both nights of the tourney, the green was fast and true, the "lighting excellent, and the superintendence in. all departments
admirable. The rink skipped toy D. P. Porteous went through four rounds without meeting defeat, and thgained premier place, and illuminated certificates. During the interval on Thursday evening 'Mr C. H. Pykc, president of Levin Bowling Club, returned thanks to the many helpers and donors for the great success achieved. Tlie executive of the tournament desires to return thanks to all the members of the croquet and bowling clubs who worked so assiduously to ensure the great success achieved; also to following helpers who were not members of either club Carting, Messrs H.
