THE BALLY BALLOT
(Contributed). Oh! Georgie dear, and did you hear, the news that's out to-day, That Bertie dear from pulling beer must join the gory fray; And Shorty, too—the bantam crew will sliave with .honest pride, While Danny Dee, the bright-eyed bee, must smile where-some have cried.
And Jimmy, too—he must do his little bit as well, While Jay and Tea we still shall see in mufti trim and swell; Jim and Morry are not sorry their names have not been drawn; They still with chips may watch the ships pass at the break of dawn. The chestnut tree no more shall see the smith of anvil fame, A bandolier, a glass of beer, what odds, it's all the same; A Spanish Ibee, a duck-foot tee, a rose by other name With khaki leaves and corded sleeves may play a useful game. The Birds must fly; the tap run Dry; ■ the Horn at morn shall sound; While merry de and bovic bee in usual haunts are found; The Macs must go if but to show that Scottish blood is there, And' other Jocks without their flocks their bivouacs will share. The fa rm, the bar. the mill, the car, the laurel wreath shall wear, The law, the leeks, the fowls, the keeks the German steel must dare ; Saints and sinners are all winners—the ballot list will show; Who runs may read : the turned cheek 1 ■breed—their feet won't let them go —Goriolanus.
