States' Guarantee to Wheatgrowers

Melbourne, February 3. Sir Alexander Peacocik, the Premier, explained to-day that the Commonwealth and the Governments of Now South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and West Australia were partners in guaranteeing the wheat growers 3s per bushel on the 1917-18 wheat crop. He said the Commonwealth would arrange to find the money for the advance. The five Governments were not buying the crop. Arrangements had been practically completed at the Premiers' Conference last month, but the West Australian representative had desired a little more time to consult Parliament. He hoped the farmers would get very much mortf than 3s per bushel, but a guarantee that they would 'receive that .much would encourage them to put as large an area as possible next season.
