[per press association, j "MAN OVERBOARD." Cliristchurdi, This Day. A man named Christie, who is a member of the Reinforcements, and who was being brought to Cliristchurdi to answer a police charge, created a sensation when the steamer Maori entered tlie harbor this morning. Hejumped overboard, and on the alarm being given the steamer put hack. A boat was lowered and the man, who is a. strong swimmer, was overtaken and caught. He had a lifebelt under his coat. The constable in charge, much concerned at the attempted escape, handcuffed his man. The arrival of the (Maori was delayed for twenty minutes by this escapade, DEATH OF SIR GEORGE McLEAN.
