f PKR PRESS ASSOCIATION.'! DISCHARGED SOLDIER'S SUICIDE. Carterton, This Day. A discharged sol in" named Charles Marshall Dix, from "A" company of the 22nd Reinforcements, was found in 'Car.rington Park on Sunday with liis throat cut. Ho was removed to Greytown Hospital, where he expired last night, at 8.30 o'clock. Deceased was discharged from camp on January Bth, medically unfit. He was a single man, aged 28. His mother resides at Taupiri, Wailcato. FLOOD CAUSES TWO DEATHS. Gis borne, Jan. 22. A lieary nainstonn at Tbkomaru Hay caused floods. A young mian named 'Lewis, aged 21, a carpenter, went out at o o'clock to look at the flood. The bank gar© woyj and he was drowned. A child named Hanlon, ager 18 months, was also drowned. The father alid handed tho child to the (motlier whilst they were escaping from tlio house. The mother tripped and fell, and the child was washed away. A number of small bridges were washed away, and stock drowned. It is reported that ten inches of rain fell inland.
