Anzac Day Service At Queenstown

There was a large attendance of returned servicemen, girl guides, school children and citizens at the Anzac Day commemoration service held in the Garrison Hall, Queenstown. The Rev. W. A. Bianchi and Rev. P. Anderson conducted the service with the, assistance of the Queenstown Municipal Band which was conducted by Mr E. R. Hopwood.

The address was given by Mr D. H. Cockburn. He said that the citizen’s responsibility to those who had died for our cause was to preserve peace. He warned those in attendance that we much be guarded against internal movements which may try to overrun the country. Even in areas as isolated as the Lakes district their influence is being exerted and we must be on the alert, he said. This was the responsibility of every citizen, to guard against the undermining influence that was a danger to our security, he said, for in commemorating those who had lost their lives so that we may maintain our freedom we must remember that it is our responsibility to them that we should guard it.

After the service, the parade marched to the War Memorial where wreaths were placed and the “ Last Post ” was played by Bandsman Garth Lonsdale.
