Lake County Council Monthly Meeting

Plans for the sealing’ of Ardmore street, ■ Wanaka, were reviewed at the monthly meeting of the Lake County Council. The engineer is to make additional proposals for preparing areas in the upper section of the town before the plans are submitted to the Main Highways Board for approval. The engineer reported that the footbridge over the Arrow River below Arrowtown is in a very bad state and urgent repair work is required to safeguard pedestrians crossing the bridge. Decking, hand-railing with staunchions and stays needed .renewing. The council gave approval for work to be done but were of the opinion that the Arrowtown Borough Council should meet half the cost. The cost of the work was estimated at £33 7s 6d. Arising from complaints received at the council meeting, the engineer was requested to instruct truck drivers to drive within the speed limits. Heavy traffic on the country roads this summer had required them to be graded more frequently. The Public Works Department advised that investigations are being made concerning Routeburn-Kinloch and other roads. A final reply will be given as soon as possible.
