FOR THE MAN ON THE LAND who suffers from chapped hands get Is worth of glycerine and tannin from the chemist. Use every night and morning. FOR THE HOUSEWIFE.— Take the juice of two lemons, two tablespoons glycerine,, one tablespoon of any kind of perfume, if procurable (if not, methylated spirits). Put in a bottle and shake well. Rub a little on the hands, but be sure to dry hands well after using the mixture. TO CURE 1601b PIG. —11b common salt, 3|lbs treacle, 3ozs saltpetre, 3ozs black pepper, 3ozs allspice. Mix well together and rub in for four days, then pour treacle over. Let side remain in pickle one week. Shoulders and hams, three weeks. Soak 24 hours before drying. FAMILY CAKE. —Cake is made to be eaten so why not make one the whole family will enjoy, pudding may be placed in the oven incup milk, cups flour, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, 4 teaspoon baking soda, 1 cup sultanas, 1 cup currants, loz peel and a few dates. Beat butter and sugar together, add eggs, milk, flour, cream of tartar, and soda, and lastly fruit. Bake about two hours.
