Bright Prospect Copper Rose put up a good performance to finish second to Cover Drive at the recent Birchwood meeting and is sure to be one of the favourites for the Trial Handicap at Riverton on Saturday. Great Western The bracket, Irish Wit-Ballyaggan, will be showing a short price in the Great Western Steeplechase at Riverton. Heroic Girl Heroic Girl did not receive a good passage in the Kennels Hack Handicap at Birchwood when running out her hack engagements and may bo seen to better advantage in the Paurakino Handicap of a mile on Saturday. Double Light Double Light, a member of the Hazlett stable, who ran second at his last start looks nicely placed in the Waiau Steeplechase with only 71b above the minimum.
SEA POWER, One of the favourites for the Riverton Cup. Riverton Cup The time honoured Riverton Cup has attracted a field of 13 and as most of the contestants have either won or been placed in their most recent performances the race should provide a fine sporting spectacle. Detain, the top-weight, has failed to race up to expectations recently but is capable of a good effort. Benbecula has won at his last two starts and is sure of a large following. Sea Power always runs an honest race and the distance will suit him. Sumra ran second to Eriskay in the Dunedin Centennial Cup and on that form must be granted a good chance of winning. Foxchase won the race last year but his only recent performance was a first, over hurdles at Wingatui. Sir Garnish finished second to Signal Officer in record time on the second day at Wingatui and as the latter has won twice in the inteim at Wellington, Sir Garnish is likely to be the actual favourite on the day. Great Coon is reported to be working well at Invercargill, and he and Joygiver, who dead-heated in this event two years ago, seem to better prospects than the remainder of the field. In what appears to be a very open race the public may choose Sir Garnish, Benbecula and Sea Power to fill the places. Good Sprinter The distance attached to the Aparima Handicap at Riverton should suit Luminous Knight and if he gets away on even terms with the rest of the field he should be in the firing line all the way. He is also engaged at Beaumont. Improved Sort Faites vos Jcaux has been improved with recent racing and should win a race over the Easter period.. Visitors’ Handicap With no fewer than six recent winners due to measure strides in the Visitors’ Handicap at Riverton on Saturday racegoers are set a hard task in trying to locate the winner. The eventual place-getters might come from Jimmy the One, The Grate, Faites vos Jeaux and Jan,
