Fast Trip, from Sydney To Dunedin
Wanaka Resident’s Experience An exceptionally fast trip was made last month by Mr D. C. Aubrey, Wanaka, when he flew from Sydney to Dunedin in one day, arriving at Dunedin in time for afternoon tea. The plane left Sydney at 2.15 a.m., and did the trip to Auckland in six hours, arriving at 8.15 a.m. Because planes at Auckland were delayed by bad weather he was able to make a connection and flew to Dunedin arriving at 3.45 p.m. Mr Aubrey was particularly pleased about the trip because he was able to see the centennial procession the following day. Air services in Australia he had found exceptionally good, he said. Planes operated on night schedules as well as day. This allowed business people to attend to business in Sydney one day and in Melbourne 460 miles away the next. Accommodation problems seemed to be much the same as those of New Zealand, he said. Most places catered for bed and breakfast and it was very difficult to get a good meal.
