Under-secretary, of Internal Affairs Dept. Addresses Rotary
The speaker at the weekly meeting of the Queenstown Rotary Club on Tuesday was Mr J. W. Heeuan, Undersecretary of Internal' Affairs Department. Mr Hecnan gave an interesting resume of the activities, of the department, since its inception over IdO years ago. Originally known as the Colonial Secretary’s office, it gradually emerged into flic Internal , Affairs Department. The many duties attached to the department were enumerated even to the conduct of the obsequies of all Cabinet Ministers. . It had charge of. the’ National Memorials Government art unions, historical records and freasures, etc. As is. well known, the department controlled fish and game in New Zealand; The overseas toast, “ Hongkong,” was given by Mr C. M. Inglis and duly honoured. Several visitors were present.
