COUNCIL TO FOSTER ERECTION OF BUS SHELTER
Lively Discussion at Meeting A letter to the Queenstown Borough Council from the Queenstown Progressive League 'asking that the. council take steps to foster the erection of a shelter shed and bus stop near Laurel Bank and that the council be responsible for the maintenance only of the shed, introduced a lively discussion at the monthly meeting of the council last Thursday night. In support of the reifticst Cr Robins pointed out that the shelter would be an amenity to the town. Cr Lindsay; “Why should the borough council be saddled with it. I cannot see that- it is in any way an amenity to this town. If the bus people consider it should be built, then they should maintain it.” Or Inglis; “ The shelter would be ’a decided asset to the townspeople in wet weather. We are a tourist town, we must cater for the travelling tourist. At the moment there is no shelter for
tourists when they alight from buse on wet days or for people who ma be meeting them. There should b i.o argument about our support to tin matter.” Or Nelson; “If the bus people ar willing to erect the shelter then w should help by maintaining it.” CT Lindsay: “I am most emphati against the council being saddled wit even one shilling of the maintenanc cost.” Cr Lindsay could receive no suppoi and lost the vote. The council ha therefore decided to foster the crcctio of the shelter and to be responsibl for its maintenance.
