Federated Farmers Meeting at Arrowtown

A meeting of the Wakatipu branch of Federated Farmers was held in Arrowtown on Thursday evening last and was attended by a large number of ihembers and district farmers. Mr W. P. Saunders presided. Present at the meeting were, Mr Walsh, chairman of the Food for Britain Campaign Committee in New Zealand, Mr R. B. Tenncnt, assistant Director of the Department of Agriculture, Wellington, Mr O’Shea, Dominion secretary of the Federated Farmers and Mr Williams, secretary to the Prime Minister. Mr Walsh gave an outline as to how New Zealand farmers could best assist Britain by the growing of foodstuff, and in particular wheat. Mr O’Shea, who had just returned from a visit to Britain with Mr Mulholland, stressed the serious financial position Britain was in at the moment and he urged the farmers to make a strong effort to help the mother country. Mr Tenncnt stressed the necessity of sowing wheat wherever pastures required renewing. The chairman, Mr W. P. Saunders assured Mr Walsh that the district farmers would remain firmly behind Britain and do all in their power to help in the production of wheat.
