Two important subjects—that of dog registration and Hydatis, and the problem of urban areas within counties were discussed at the conference of the South Island County Clerks’ Institute, held at' Waimate recently; according to a report presented to the council by Mr E. R. Hopwood. BRIDGE REPAIRS RESTRICTED “ Because timber is so slow in coming to hand, repairs on bridges are restricted,” said Mr H. A. Vezey, county engineer. On one bridge an order was placed for 150 planks about 12 months ago and only 49 had come to hand. REES BRIDGE The cdurity engineer is to inspect the Rees bridge wdth the Highways engineer and submit a report to the council. . NEW MACHINERY It was decided to place an order for a “ Caterpillar Auto Patrol Grader-” and a new Chevrolet truck. •’ Delivery of the grader is not expected for several years. TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT The Transport Department advised the council of its intention of issuing a bulletin dealing with road markings as distinct from traffic signs.
