Fro it the Files of the Wakatip Mail We are requested to remind advertisers that this Journal will be published on Christmas morning, instead of Thursday, in order that all engaged on it may enjoy a holiday on Christmas Day. The Provincial Treasurer notified the Hospital Committee that the subsidy to hospitals would be reduced from £3 to £2 in the pound. It was decided to protest against these reductions. In a subsequent issue it was stated that the subsidy was retained at £3. JANUARY, 1868 A Ball and supper will be given in the Assembly Room, Skippers, in aid of the Wakitipu District Hospital. Tickets £1 each, admitting lady' and gentleman. Mr Surveyor Wright and party proceeded to Vontunzelman’s Station this morning on his tour of inspection, and for the purpose of marking out a line for a road to Martin’s Bay. Extracts from report of Queenstown School Committee: Few districts can boast of an institution more complete in all its arrangements, and it is only to be hoped that its usefulness will continue to be felt throughout the national institution in the interests matters with the council. His Honour took a rather gloomy view of several of the municipalities as lasting bodies.
