A Visit from the Minister of Health

The Minister of Health Miss M. Howard, her secretary, Mr E. J. Suteh, and Dr McNickle, Director of Health, paid a visit to Arrowtown at the weekend, and arrived at the Central Hotel at 7.15 on Saturday evening and were met by the Mayor, Mr E. Thompson, and the president of the Progress League, Mr E. J. Saunders, who extended to her and her party a very hearty welcome to Arrowtown. In the evening Miss Howard met a deputation from the Progress League, when matters of moment from a health point of view were discussed and agreed upon. On Sunday morning the party went prospecting under the direction of Mr Win. Maitland an experienced miner and Dr McNickle considered that his banker would be delighted at the results. The party then went on to Macetown with Messrs E. Thompson, E. J. Saunders, W. J. Shaw and W. Maitland, where much of interest of the old mining days were pointed out to them. Miss Howard obtained several souvenirs, which she intends to place in her office at Wellington. Xw the afternoon Miss Howard and party and Dr Cook were entertained at afternoon tea in Mrs Thompson’s Tea Rooms by members of the Borough Council and their wives. The Mayor, after making introductions expressed keen appreciation over the visit, stating that it was the first Ministerial visit in Arrowtown during his term of office. Miss Howard in her usual happy vein, stated that the idea of staying in Arrowtown was put forward by her secretary, Mr Suteh and she was very

pleased they had decided to do so as the hospitality extended to them was wonderful. The service at the hotel was excellent, and Miss Howard remarked she had never been better treated anywhere. Miss Howard also remarked on the wonderful afternoon tea, and that in the near future she would like to spend a holiday in our sleepy hollow with its lovely avenue of trees and old time cottages. Other speakers were Dr MeNickle, Dr Cook, Mr Sutch and the deputyMayor, Mr J. W. Eeid. The party left on Monday morning for Cromwell.
