PRESBYTERY OF CENTRAL OTAGO
The Presbytery of Central Otago met at Alexandra on Thursday, presided over by the Moderator, the Rev. G. Dallard. New Moderator The Rev. J. C. Doig (Cromwell) was • elected as Moderator of Presbytery for the ensuing year, and installed in office by the retiring Moderator. Visit of Dr John Baillie The Very Rev. Dr John Baillie, past moderator of the Church of Scotland, would be visiting Central Otago after the centennial celebrations in Dunedin, stated the clerk, the Rev. R. R. Welsh. Arrangements were made to hold a public meeting in Alexandra on March 29, when the Presbytery would be able to welcome Dr Baillie. Other Visitors It was also stated that visits to the Presbytery were expected from the Very Rev. A. Furves Boyes, past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of England, and the Moderator of the New Zealand Church, the Right Rev. J. Douglas Smith. Arrangements for their visits were left in the hands of the clerk. Synod of Otago and Southland Delegates to attend the Centennial Synod meetings in March were appointed. It was agreed to nominate as Moderator-designate of Synod the Rev. J. Badcock, of Mataura. Appointments to the Synod committees were as follows: —Finance committee, the Rev. D. D. Heggie and Mr R. J. Gibson; committee on grants, the Rev. G. Dallard. Coal Creek Scheme Consideration was given to the place of the church in the settlement at the Coal Creek dam site, and it was agreed to apply to the Minister of Public Works, through the Church’s New Housing Commission, for a suitable site and building for the Church in the area. Easter Bible Class Camp The Rev. G. Dallard, convener of the Presbytery’s Youth Committee, reported that the usual Bible Class camp would be held at Easter, at Alexandra. The Rev. Dr Hector West would be Camp Father.
