Wilfred Pickles Has A “ Go ” at Television

Wilfred Pickles, the famous Yorkshire comedian and radio personality, who has been broadcasting from the 8.8.C. studios for a great many years and whose present programme, “Have a Go! ” is one of the top 8.8.C. variety hits, looked rather worried before his first appearance in television recently. After the show he confided, “Worried? ee, I were an’ all, lad. They stuck a camera right in front o’ me and then said, ‘ Ignore it. Pretend it isn’t there, like.’ Fancy pretending a whopping thing like that isn’t there! I’d never set eyes on one before.” He says it “ Weren’t owt like this ’ere wireless business,” but he was 'pleased when Mrs. Pickles, who had seen the show on the screen, said, “My word, Wilf, the make-up girls didn’t half make you look handsome.” Wilfred is wondering whether he “ looked himself ” or not.
