Sutcliffe Hits Out At Queenstown
Bert Sutcliffe, recognised in cricket circles as New Zealand’s No. 1 batsman, turned out to a practice at the Queenstown cricket ground last week. It was not long before someone willingly parted with their boots and Sutcliffe was before the wickets waiting for the first ball. Mrs Sutcliffe was sitting on .the bank and commented that she would laugh if her husband was bowled first ball — but it was not to be. The first few he merely limbered up on—then the nets were removed and from then on it was a case of standing on the boundaries for fours and sixes came without effort. Unfortunately, the light was failing and players could not study the champion as much as they would have liked. However, Sutcliffe was alwa"ys willing to explain various points and his visit was of much value.
