FIRE

About 4.20 last Thursday morning a fire broke out behind Mr W, E. Jelly’s residence, and the local fire brigade were promptly on the job. The fire was discovered by Mr J. P. Fitzgerald, who was on his way to work, and he notified the people whose houses appeared to be in danger by the outbreak. The brigade must be commended on its prompt and capable performance in extinguishing the blaze, which at one stage looked to be endangering the residence next door belonging to Mr A. B. Pearson. When the hoses were first run out they stretched across the road and it is asked of those who travel to the fires in cars to avoid these hoses at all costs, as a break at such a time would have meant minutes of delay and the fire would have gained a greater hold.
