Wakatip Mail
Robertson and Hallenstein, having been granted a suitable site for a flour mill near Frankton, have now taken steps to have same completed for next year’s harvest. The flour mills were christened on July 21, 1867. The cost of the Mill was approx. £SOOO.
An advertisement notifies that Mine Host, Royal Oak Hotel, Arrowtown, intends, on July 4, to celebrate the anniversary of American Independence by a ball and supper.
A well-known resident, who left for the West Coast to better his fortunes, says that he visited the new rush and ascertained that every ounce of gold will cost nearly its value to procure. There are at least 4000 people on the ground. Surplus water is said to be the main difficulty.
'Magistrates Court Case—Matheson v. Ellis; claim of 4s, price of tickets for tea meeting. This was a rehearing. The defendant did not appear, and a verdict was given by default.
