Seven Men Charged

As the result of a raid by Constable S. Rusbatch, on two Cromwell hotels after midnight on November 9, two licensees and five other men were convicted and fined Mr A. E. Dobbie, S.M., in the ' Cromwell Magistrate’s Court, on Tuesday last week. Duncan Gordon Anderson, licensee of Hotel Cromwell, and George Bell, licensee of the Golden Age Hotel were each fined respectively £4 and £2 (costs 10s) for allowing their premises to be open for the sale of liquor at such time as they are required by law to be closed. Albert Murray, Brian Cox, William Alexander, Victor Alfred John Schieb, and Basil Seales were each fined £2 (costs 10s) for being found on licensed premises after hours.
