LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL

NEW CHAIRMAN ELECTED Cr D. H. Cockburn was unanimously elected chairman of the Lake County •Council at the Council’s meeting, held in the County Chambers, on December 11. His was the only nomination put forward. Cr Cockburn thanked the council for the honour again conferred on him, and congratulated the councillors on their re-election, which showed, he said, that they had the confidence of the ratepayers. He welcomed Cr Soper, the new member for Kingston Riding. Cr Cockburn spoke of difficulties vi' wliich had confronted the council in the past and of difficulties they would ••'meet in the future. Financial Statement The trearurer reported that the debit balance at date was £4135 2s 3d, plus accounts due for payment, amounting to £517 7s 3d. The amount of rates outstanding was £6840 Is lOd; other outstanding revenue, £1982 15s lid. The engineer’s report for the month was adopted. Proposed works outlined were:— Arrow Riding: Grade main highway “-and—county roads; open up Tobin’s track across slip; commence opening jot Macetown road; also some minor -work on A. and P. ground. ? ; Queenstown Riding: Grade Queens-town-W anaka main highways; repairs , to Closeburn and Moke Lake roads; commence gravelling Skipper’s Saddle road. Kingston Riding: Surfacing of riding roads and installation of culverts, g including one ton Cecil Peak road. Greenstone Ridiing: 'General maintenance of roads. Wanaka Riding: Gravelling and installation of, 48in diameter culvert at Timber Gully, near Cardrona Nursery, complete river protective works and construct new ford over Cardrona River at Scurrs on return over Crown 'Range.
