THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS
A little Babe was born one night when snow was falling soft and white; a little Babe so sweet and small, whose cradle was a manger stall. Oh, never e’en an earthly king so strangely did his life begin; yet Mary smiled without alarm, the Lamb of God could meet no harm. To warm the little limbs so bare the oxen breathed with gentle care; for coverlid that winter’s day the asses brought their feed of hay; where leaked the roof and rough wind sings, the sparrows spread their tiny wings. And angels sang “ From God on high ’tis love transcendent draweth nigh; ’tis Christ the Lord, Emmanuel’s Son, who comes to save a world undone. Ring out, ye bells, ring out your chime, peal forth with joy this Christmas-time! Ye people, sing with holy mirth, ‘Goodwill to men and peace on earth! ’ ”
