OBITUARY

Mr John Reid, of “ Reidhaven,” Arrowtown, who passed away at his residence on Wednesday last, after a long illness, was the fourth son of the late James and Jane Mary Reid, pioneer residents of the Arrow district. The late Mr Reid received his education at the Arrow public school and duing his younger days he was a noted runner in the district, always taking active part ,in all sporting activities and public affairs, being a councillor and Mayor of the town. , He was a foundation member of the Lake Wakatipu Mounted Rifles and was in charge when the club was disbanded. Mr Reid was always a very active member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church and was one of those instrumental in having the new manse built. Of a retiring disposition he was loved by all, especially the younger boys, in whom lie took a great interest. On November 10, 1913, he married Miss Jane Elizabeth Shiels. The burial took place in the Arrowtown Cemetery on Friday, November 21, the service at the house and graveside being conducted by the Rev. P. Anderson, of Queenstown. The late Mr Reid leaves a wife, one daughter and one son, also two brothers and sisters. Among the numerous beautiful floral tributes was one from the Presbyterian Church committee and one from the staff of the Arrowtown Post Office.
