W.D.F.F.

BIRTHDAY PARTY The seventeenth birthday party of the W.D.F.F. was held in the Athen£eum Hall on Friday evening last, when a short concert by the Arrowtown Entertainers was very much enjoyed. Mrs Ogilvie, president of the Arrow Entertainers, welcomed two new guest artists, Mrs I. Cowie and Mr Horc. Mrs Cowie is certainly an asset to the entertainers with her beautiful voice. The programme was as follows: — Recitation, Mr W. Hore; a play entitled “Ma’s Holiday,” the cast being Mrs Rea (Ma), Mr L. Small (Jake, her husband), Colin Walker (Bobby, her son), Mrs Given (Mrs Jones, a neighbour), Mr Peter Stapp (the doctor). The play was produced by Mr Thompson. "It’s a Pleasure,” a short play, was presented by Mrs H. McLean, and Miss G. Hanton. These two plays were very well acted and caused quite a lot of fun. Three solos by Mrs lan Cowie were greatly appreciated. A competition in which five blind-folded men had to hang the washing on the line was won by Mr Alex. Miller, Gibbston. A “ quiz ” session, conducted by Mrs Rea, resulted in the ladies winning by 9-5 against the gentlemen. Mrs Cockburn, delegate to the Otago executive, spoke of the good work of the rest homes and also about a new home being started in Auckland. Mrs Cockburn also lit the candles on the cake. Mrs Sutherland, of Queenstown, wished the Arrow W.D.F.F. a very happy birthday from all at Queenstown. Mrs Radford, Cromwell, spoke on, the Food For Britain and how we must all 'do our best at this time and send all we can. She also wished the Arrow W.D.F.F. many happy returns from the Cromwell branch. Prizes were awarded to the following:—Large bloom: Mrs Bowler 1, Mrs A. Hansen 2; small bloom: Mrs Walker 1, Mrs Bowler 2. A bounteous supper supplied by the ladies brought a very good evening to a close.
