Year’s Work Reviewed A firm financial position and a credit balance of £3O 14s 4d was revealed in the report and balance sheet produced at the Arrowtown Horticultural and Industrial Society's annual meeting on Monday, November 10. Mr John Dalrymple presided. The report stated that the society’s show, held on February 17, 1947, proved a success both socially and financially. Entries were good in all classes with the exception of cooking, Vegetables were below standard owing to the seasonal conditions. The flower sections were excellent, specially in sweet peas and collections of cut flowers. Outstanding exhibits were in the gladiolus classes, the judge having great, difficulty in finding the winners. Entries in the decorative section were disappointing, but in the chil* dren’s section were some artistic exhibits. Although entries in some classes of the industrial section were not numerous, the standard of attainment was high. In the children’s section, shortage of materials restricted the number of entries in some classes, but the children added colour ahd Interest to the show by a variety of efforts. The election of office-bearers resulted; President, Mr John Dalrymple; vice-president, Mr C. R. Walker; secretary and treasurer, Mrs I. B. Ritchie; committee—Mesdames J. H. Douglas. J. Shaw, A. Geer, E. Thompson, J. W. Henderson, J. M. Hansen, W. Martin, Fletcher, J. W. Reid, W.. Adams and A. C. Erridge, Misses Edwards and Payne, Messrs J. H. Douglas, C. R. Walker and J. W. Henderson. Judges appointed, subject to thenapproval, were: Classes I and 111, Mr John Dalrymple; Class 11, Mesdames F.erguson and Given; Class IV, Mr John Jenkins; Class V, Mesdames McLean and Ogilvie; Class VI, Mrs E. C. Paterson. Class stewards were reappointed. A vote of thanks to the secretary was recorded. It was decided to present Miss B. Dagg with a miniature cup for having won the cup for most points in the industrial section for three - years in succession. Postage for tinned goods brought to the division by members was contributed by those present and Mrs G. Hansen offered to pack the parcel. A motion was passed that instead of continuing the birthday box, each member instead contribue Is to the Food for Britain fund. Mr E. Thompson advised the secretary that £26 11s contributed by residents of Arrowtown would be handed over to the division and the members decided unanimously tq forward this . amount to Mrs Leatham for bulk purchase of goods for Britain, the parcels to contain notes to the effect that the food came from Arrowtown residents. Final arrangements for the birthday. party were made. It was decided that proceeds from entertainment be forwarded to Mrs Leatham at Dunedin headquarters. The roll call, “My Favourite Male Singer over the Radio and two of his Songs,” proved interesting. Results of ' a competition were: Large bloom —Mrs W. Saunders 1, Mrs G; Hansen 2, Mrs R. Scott 3. Small bloom—Mrs C. Walker L.Mrs G. Bowler 2, Mesdames R. Scott and J. Butel 3 equal. Hostesses were Mesdames W. Saunders, J. B. Summers and E. Thompson. *
