Bill Brawnly, the strong man of the village, met one of his fellow-villag-ers in the local inn. During their conversation Bill called the other a liar. The villager naturally resented this remark. “Look here, Brawnly,” he snapped half-heartedly, “I’ll give you just five minutes to take that back.” Bill smiled. “Is that so?” he replied, extending his huge chest impressively. “And suppose I don’t take it back in five minutes? ” “ Then,” said the villager, after a slight pause, “ I will extend the time.” The teacher had been giving a lesson on David and Goliath, remarking that David slung a stone which struck Goliath on the temple and killed him. Later that day, seeing a small boy in tears, she asked the reason, and received this reply: “Please, miss, Bobbie threw the ball, and I think it hit me on the chapel.” A young, handsome and intelligent lady was expected at a party. “Well, how do you like her?'” “ She is certainly young and handsome —if only she were stupid she' would be perfect.”
